spread the love

Over the past few years my thoughts on Valentine's Day have changed. If you look back to my high school Facebook feed, you'll find several years of "Happy Single's Awareness Day" statuses. And my days went something like this...

Or this...

Nowadays, I like to think of Valentine's Day not as a holiday to celebrate romance, but as a holiday to celebrate love. I know I've been absent from my blog lately; however, I knew I couldn't let Valentine's pass without posting on one of the main themes I aim to project on here: spreading love. Whether you're single or in a relationship, Valentine's Day can absolutely be used as an excuse to do something nice for someone else (not that you necessarily need a reason to do so.) If your schedule is even half as busy as mine is though, you know that it can be hard to fit in grand gestures on a daily basis.

I've been seeing people post videos of Nek nominations on Facebook. If you haven't heard of Nek nominations, they're basically a beer chugging dare that gets passed along from friend to friend. To be honest I think the idea is a little stupid. What I don't think is stupid are the people who have turned their Nek nominations into "RAK" nominations: random acts of kindness. It's as if little Haley Joel Osment's dreams from Pay it Forward are finally coming true.

If people could do the same thing to Valentine's Day that some people did to the Nek nominations, I think there would be a lot less lonely souls out there on the 14th of February. From giving cards out to friends again, to giving a rose to a homeless person, there are so many little things you can do that will make a big difference to someone else's heart.

I know the video below is romance oriented, but it's something I always like to share on Valentine's Day.

So whether you're in love or vying for love, there's no reason why you can't use today as an excuse to spread a little love. Buy someone a drink. Bake. Compliment a stranger. Draw somebody a picture. Anything you are able to do is enough.
If we all pass along some love, then it's only so much more likely that it will come back our way in the future.

Happy Valentine's Day!

With love,
Ciara <3
